Coming soon to Davis!
Welcome to Mass Exodus! We are an escape room business that focuses on providing fun and entertainment to our dearest customers. If you do not know, an escape room is a game where a group of people work together to find clues and solve puzzles in order to get out of a "locked" room before their time limit runs out. Mass Exodus' specialty is that we plan to regularly change our escape rooms each year, bringing customers back for more thrills and excitement. We also wish to provide discounts for large groups, students, and senior citizens, providing opportunities for more people to play.
Davis needs an innovative and modern business such as Mass Exodus to provide its citizens a place to relax, unwind, and overall, have fun! The chances of success are rather high as many escape room businesses have seen an increase in revenue, due to new advancements in technology and a rise in public interest. We plan to locate our business at 1790 E. 8th Street, where Matthew's Mattress used to be in the Davis Manor Center.
Construction will begin when the COVID-19 pandemic is truly over.

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide entertainment in an affordable and quality fashion.
Vision
We believe in redefining the entertainment sector. A majority of people do not have access to resources that promote face to face social interaction and team building skills. We believe it is our job to fix this problem and provide an experience that develops these qualities. We want each group to leave with a higher sense of unity, perseverance, trust, confidence, and problem solving. Our dedication for growth and our passion for building up communities is what will ultimately keep our business successful.

How We Stand Out
At Mass Exodus, our admissions are cheaper than most other escape rooms, currently at the price of $30 a person. However, we offer plenty of discounts for students, senior citizens, and special events like birthday parties. Our location is near both Da Vinci High School and Holmes Junior High School, potentially attracting student customers with these discounts. We also plan to have a leaderboard system, incentivizing people to beat the times of others. Since Davis currently has one other escape room business with only a single escape room, we can provide more for our customers through multiple rooms and puzzles. Given the fact that escape rooms are a growing business and that Davis has a lack of entertainment options, we would be highly competitive.

Customer Profile
27% of escape room players are 25-30 years old, 24% are 30-40, 20% are 18-24, 15% are over 45, and 14% are under 18 years old. (Agarwal). Millennials make 54% of purchases online and about 75% would rather spend their money on experiences than wants (Law). Therefore, our demographic of customers would be focused on younger citizens of Davis who are interested in puzzles and can afford ~$30 and transportation. However, in the end, percentages do not matter much because escape rooms are fun for all ages! In our own survey, nearly 88% of people were interested in participating in an escape room. This applied to all age groups. Davis' population is around 70,000 people (census.gov). We could, on an extremely conservative estimate, expect over 10,000 of them to come. That is assuming that less than half of the population likes any puzzle or puzzle related activities. |
Industry Outlook
The escape room business has been growing constantly each year. In 2017 to 2018 specifically, escape rooms in America have seen an 11.45% increase in revenue. Escape rooms seem to have benefited from modern technology. Evidently, there has been a 62.77% increase in online booking revenue. Mobile device bookings have also increased by 47.79%. In 2018, the number of escape room businesses increased by 28% but it has been leveling off as of now. (Xola) |
Pricing Strategy
Initially, we plan to charge 30$ for each person in a party. If the party contains 7 or more people, we will reduce the price to 25$ per person. We will offer a 10% discount on individual tickets for senior citizens, and we plan to also offer a 10% student discount in the future. Since weekdays are the less popular days for escape rooms, we will give people who go to one of our experiences a coupon that gives a 10% discount on weekdays. Additionally, we will grant another 10% discount if you and your team are successful in escaping. Note that the 10% discounts are calculated together after the group discount. All these offered discounts are bound to attract plenty of customers without hurting our profits too much.
Once we discover what kind of profits we are turning, we may reduce the cost of our tickets to 27$ per person. Our only direct competitor, Minervium, charges 30$ per person, but does not have any discounts for larger groups. This makes Mass Exodus the better economic choice. There is also a large amount of competition in Sacramento, some of which charge only 27$ per person; however, since our primary target audience lives in Davis, our rooms are still cheaper because of the cost of gas from traveling in both directions. Also, it is 30 to 60 total minutes of driving to go to Sacramento’s rooms and back, so our rooms are cheaper in terms of both money and time. Additionally, any true escape room enthusiasts living in Sacramento will probably come to our rooms anyway since they will already have completed the other local ones.

Getting Started
Once the COVID-19 pandemic is over we will start construction to separate the building into four sections for each escape room. Once we set up one of the escape rooms, we will open our business to the public as we are setting up the rest. For advertising, we will post flyers around the town and get our ads in newspapers like the Davis Enterprise. We also plan to broadcast our commercial for the public to see. Social media is a powerful tool that can garner additional attention to Mass Exodus. Through our competitive leaderboards and close proximity to schools, we are highly confident that the public will tell about us to friends and family through social media. Of course, in the end, this business can not be possible without your support!
